The Class of 2023 has started their college life for more than one month. How is everything going? We have interviewed some freshmen. Let's see what they say!
Li Yihuang
Li Yihuang, who comes from Changsha, Hunan Province, is a freshman in Biotechnology and Food Engineering. "It is the unique teaching model and scientific research resource at GTIIT that attract me most," he said. Before the college entrance examination, GTIIT has been his dream school. And even his grade was 90 points beyond the admission score of key universities and has many other choices, he insisted on GTIIT.
On the registration day, Li Yihuang was surprised by the architectural style of campus and the dormitory. "This is the best dormitory I have ever seen." Nowadays he has finished five weeks' preparation courses, endeavoring to adapt to English immersion education. Studying in college is quite different from that in high schools, where students need to be an active-learner. Li Yihuang decided to communicate more with the professors and manage time efficiently. For the future planning, he is confident of reaching a higher level for the next four years.
Niu Yifan
The first time Niu Yifan, who comes from Zhengzhou, Henan Province, knew GTIIT was at the admission consultation meeting in June this year. But now, she has become a GTIIT expert! "If you have passion in scientific research and can endure loneliness, GTIIT is a very nice choice," she said. Besides, she also talked about her family's agreeing with the Israeli teaching philosophy and creativity. She mentioned that Guangdong is at the forefront of reform and opening-up, which raises her interest to have a deeper understanding of the province. "Another reason to choose GTIIT is my personal admiration for Einstein, even though I am not good at physics," she laughed.
At first, she worried about English immersion education. "I can't catch up with the teacher very well at the beginning, now things are getting better. It is a process that needs hard working," she said, "preparation period is really important." She was grateful to teachers as well as classmates who are friendly and patiently solve her questions. When talked about the registration day, she said happily, "the pick-up team is very enthusiastic, like the pleasant fresh air in Shantou."
Zhang Ningyuan
"To be honest," Zhang Ningyuan, a chili head, said, "people in Guangdong and Sichuan have quite a different understanding of spiciness." But after trying Chaoshan beef hotpot with local classmates, he fell in love with it.
During the preparation period, Zhang Ningyuan found GTIIT focused on the breadth and depth of knowledge. He bought a few English books in the summer vocation, planning to learn ahead, but failed. However, when he studied in the English immersion environment, he would think about the course content before sleep for a long time, which forced him to learn English hard.
In addition to study, he hoped to enhance his comprehensive quality. As a music lover, he has found some like-minded people and plans to join Dancing Club and Guitar Club.
Yang Xingyue
Yang Xingyue had a very clear goal in mind when she was still a high school student: digging into the field of biological computers and exploring possibilities of human-machine integration. Knowing that the Biotechnology and Food Engineering program has a history of more than 50 years in the Israel Institute of Technology (the Technion), and more than 60% of GTIIT faculty were from the Technion, Yang Xingyue chose GTIIT without hesitation.
At first, she was a little worried that she could not settle into life at GTIIT, but she quickly realized that all GTIITers are very nice. "They are willing to give a hand. The teachers I met in the preparatory courses impressed me a lot." She added that they are also very patient. "Dr. Connie, the English teacher from B5 team always encourages us to smile and be brave during the class."
Yang Xingyue is confident about the next four years. "I will try to get a higher GPA and gain the opportunity to participate in the exchange program." She hopes to ascend to a higher level by making full use of GTIIT's international resources, broadening her horizon and learning from the masters.
Wang Run
Wang Run didn't have a clear idea of which program to choose while filling out the college application. "To be honest, I was attracted by GTIIT Materials Engineering program's promotional video at first." After knowing more about this major and its future development, Wang Run, a "science geek", believed that GTIIT's ME program will fit his needs. "I applied for it without hesitation."
As a local resident in Shantou, Wang Run chose to visit GTIIT on the opening day this year. He said, "The school covers a small area, but it is well equipped. I was extremely impressed by the academic atmosphere in lab."
Wang Run thought that the preparatory courses shouldn't be too difficult but after the first day of class he suddenly found "things are not that simple ". "Here, you have changed from a listener to a participant, even a critic. It takes time to adapt, but I have learnt a lot from it."
