Building a parent-institute relationship

As the school season comes, Guangdong Technion Israel Institute of Technology(GTIIT) held three parents meetings, in order to strengthen communication, increase mutual trust, and enhance the idea that better education will realize with the cooperation between parents and institute.

GTIIT Management and department heads attended the meetings include Lin Danming, Pro-Vice Chancellor of GTIIT; Chen Shaogang, Assistant to GTIIT PVC; Ori Lahav, Dean of Undergraduate Studies; Liao Xuequan, Director of Students Affairs, Eran Gal-Or, Deputy General Director for Operation and Li Min, Director of News and Public Affairs.

PVC Lin Danming introduced GTIIT's academic team, students' learning conditions, exchange programs and internship. He specially mentioned that as a member of the Guangdong Province's High-Level University Development Program, GTIIT will give full play to international education resources, integrate into the development of the Greater Bay Area and provide better learning environment as well as development space in all fronts.


Related departments answered questions which parents concerned about.

How to arouse the interest of study? Prof. Ori Lahav, Dean of GTIIT Undergraduate Studies said curriculum were set from easy to hard. In the first year, they will learn the basics. He encouraged freshmen to ask teachers or senior students questions, or work as a team with peers, progressing together.


How to adapt to full-English teaching? Prof. Lahav pointed out that during the preparatory period, students will take more than 100 hours' English courses taught by experienced teachers in small classes, to this end their conversational and interpretational skills will be improved. “We create a full-English environment for students, where they need to learn and communicate in this foreign language."

Liao Xuequan, Director of Students Affairs highlighted the learning condition in GTIIT. He started from the topic of full-English education, then focused on the theme of "what to study" and "how to study". He stressed that courses in GTIIT are difficult and intense, thus parents should communicate with their children actively and face challenges together.

Zhou Weinan from Undergraduate Studies introduced from three perspectives: undergraduate lectures, study and management, including GPA calculation, the boundary condition of scores, etc. She emphasized that the score of final exams does not equal to one of the courses. For students who have difficulty in study, methods will be taken to help them.

During the meetings, parents showed expectation to enhance cooperation with GTIIT and create a better environment for students to study and grow up.


Parents representative: Huang Xinyi's father's sharing:

"We have some disagreements along the way, but all agree on choosing GTIIT. To adjusted to heavy school work, Xinyi has given up some hobbies," he said.


Parents representative: Zhang Hongrui's father's sharing:

Zhang Hongrui's father, who graduated from South China University of Technology, said that the content of studies in GTIIT is deeper and wider than other universities. "To be honest," he said, "you will learn more in GTIIT."
