At 19:31 July 26, a team from Israel with 10 students and 2 leaders to attend the Asian Science Camp (ASC) 2019, arrived at Shantou High-speed Railway Station. The ASC volunteers in green T-shirts led them to the camp which is situated at GTIIT North Campus. At 20:15, they started to check-in, becoming the first team to arrive at the camp during the ASC 2019.

Welcome Package

The ASC 2019, which will be held from 28 July to 3 August 2019 in Shantou, is organized by China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE) and co-organized by Shantou University (STU) and Guangdong Technion Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT), with the theme Science, Youth and the Future.

There will be 256 students and 39 team leaders from 28 countries and regions who participate in ASC 2019. These campers come from high schools and universities, and they perform very well in physics, chemistry and biotechnology. They come here with full admiration for the top scientists, as well as curiosity about foreign culture. 

Campers from different countries and rigions

A 14-year-old Palestine boy, Sara Mahmoud Abdel Rahman Jaber, is the youngest camper. RIZ Liyanage, from Sri Lanka, wants to make some like-minded friends who come from different countries. He also expects to learn more from the lectures. SOKHONN Lynith, a lovely 16 years old girl, is a first-year undergraduate student majoring in Information Technology. She has prepared for this camp for a long time, watching many invited speakers' lecture video. "I am looking forward to the cultural exchanges among the campers." Lin Baiken, a camper from Shantou who broke his ankle last month, insistes to arrive at the camp on check-in day. The nurses of ASC provided a wheelchair for him. "I don't want to miss the opportunity to meet the top scientists," Lin said. Although it is a pity that he could not join the sightseeing and excursions session, he really appreciates the help from volunteers and teachers to make him participate in other sessions as much as possible.

Orientation Training

All of the campers and team leaders gathered for the first time to have an orientation and briefing tonight. After brief introduction of STU and GTIIT, as well as the history of ASC and the following schedule, all the participants were led by volunteers to play ice breaker games thus to know others better.
