On March 22 to 25, the 18th Nan'ao Science Conference "China-Israel Symposium on Strong-Light Quantum Optics" was successfully held in Nan'ao Island, Shantou.
This marks the first international conference held this year of the Nan'ao Science Conference. It brought together about 60 scholars from seven countries, including 21 international experts, to exchange ideas on the groundbreaking achievements of the 2022 and 2023 Nobel Prizes in Physics. The conference focused on the emerging interdisciplinary research bridging attosecond science and quantum optics. Nearly 30 keynote presentations covered cutting-edge topics such as the preparation of photonic quantum states, photonic quantum tomography, and quantum electrodynamics in ultra-strong optical fields, exploring the challenges and opportunities in this highly forward-looking area.
The conference was co-chaired by Prof. Oren Cohen, Head of Physics Program of Guangdong Technion - Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT), and Prof. Wang Xuehua from Sun Yat-sen University. Attendees included Wu Shiwen, Deputy Director of Guangdong Science and Technology Department; Zhao Jinsong, Director of Guangdong Basic and Applied Basic Research Foundation; and Prof. Gong Xingao, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chancellor of GTIIT.
Wu Shiwen stated in his speech that since its inauguration, the Nan'ao Science Conference has been committed to building an international and professional platform for basic research and academic exchanges. The Conference focuses on the international frontiers of science and addresses the major strategic needs of national and local development. It has attracted numerous top international and national scientists, thriving for significant achievements of academic communication.
Prof. Gong Xingao emphasized that this symposium represents a significant milestone in the internationalization of the Nan'ao Science Conference, laying a solid foundation for building a higher-level academic exchange platform in the future. The conference focused on the forefront of the second quantum revolution, bringing together global experts to foster deep collaboration and vibrant exchange of ideas, thereby propelling transformative breakthroughs in related fields.
Prof. David Gershoni, Vice Chancellor of GTIIT, noted that the Nan'ao Science Conference provides a valuable opportunity for scientists from around the world to collaborate, exchange ideas, and spark interdisciplinary innovation, serving as a fantastic example for scientific cooperation.
As an emerging interdisciplinary subject, strong light quantum optics brings unprecedented opportunities and challenges to fields such as energy, information, and communication. During the conference, experts and scholars discussed the latest research in this field, with the topics of high-harmonic generation, quantum electrodynamics, and the control of quantum photonic states, as well as the formation of room-temperature quantum states, etc.
This conference has specially arranged a poster session, offering young researchers a dynamic platform to showcase their research achievements. Through this platform, more young scientists will be encouraged to engage in basic research and thus lay a solid foundation for further academic cooperation and innovation.
