What is the future of Artificial Intelligence?
How advanced are biorobots?
Are there any other scientific breakthroughs in reducing carbon emissions?
Recently, an event titled "2024 Science Lectures by Academicians and Scientists in Shantou Schools", organized by the Shantou Municipal Education Bureau, was held at Guangdong Technion - Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT). 100 science-loving local high school students met the scientists, their science idols, engaging in intellectual exchanges with "big names" from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and GTIIT.
Chen Shaogang, Assistant to GTIIT Pro-Vice Chancellor, warmly welcomed the attending leaders and students, briefly introducing the university's history, faculty team, research resources and achievements in talent cultivation. He noted that in recent years, many outstanding students from Shantou have enrolled in GTIIT, and GTIIT has introduced policies such as reducing tuition fees to support local students. He encouraged more students to apply to GTIIT, a "top-tier university at our doorstep".
Wang Jianbo, Deputy Director of Shantou Education Bureau, Delivered a Speech
Prof. Zhao Xiaoguang, a researcher fellow and PhD supervisor from the Institute of Automation at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, gave a popular science report titled "Robotics Technology Changing the World". From the world's first robot prototype to the rapid iteration of AI technology in recent years, Zhao explained the principles and applications of artificial intelligence in simple language and vivid examples.
Assoc. Prof. He Xuezhong from GTIIT Chemical Engineering (CE) Program delivered a lecture titled "Green Chemical Engineering for Carbon Neutrality." He introduced two application technologies by GTIIT CE Program, carbon capture and hydrogen energy development, broadening students' understanding of green chemical engineering and inspiring them to contribute to innovation of sustainable development.
Q&A Sessions during the lectures
The students were deeply attracted by the scientists' introductions. They listened intently and took notes, coming up with questions and asking for signatures in excitement.
Campus tour and lab visit
As a young research-oriented and innovative university, GTIIT has attached great importance to science and innovation education, both on campus and off campus. In recent years, GTIIT has continuously organized diverse popularization activities to increase teenagers' interest in science and innovation, which have been widely welcomed by national high schools.
