Happy Teachers' Day

PostTime:9/10/2024

September 10th this year is the 40th Teachers' Day in China. On this special day, GTIIT students shared their stories and drawings to express immense gratitude and best wishes to their teachers.

Prof. Avishay LEVY is a teacher who really understands students. He is not a traditional university teacher, as he not only teaches us knowledge and how to take exams, but also guides us on how to enjoy learning and make true friends. He is also very good at encouraging and guiding students. In his organic chemistry class, he always pauses to ensure  all queries are addressed. In his office hour, he leads us to try solving problems by ourselves through the tips he has provided us rather than explaining them directly. I really love his teaching mode, and I can feel how conscientious he is in class. He has a charm that makes people who hate chemistry fall in love with it! Thank you so much Avishay! Wish you a happy teachers’ day!

One of my favourite teachers is Prof. Mayra Mendez, who is very lively and passionate, bringing full energy and enthusiasm to every class. She always explains obscure definitions with vivid examples and motivates everyone's interest in maths with her rich body language. She often shares with us some interesting things during break, and often tries various ways to solve our confusions.

Happy Teachers’ Day to all the teachers of GTIIT!!!!

My first impression of Santiago was that he was approachable. During our first math class, some students interrupted him repeatedly, complaining that his uppercase letters were hard to read and that his handwriting was not standard, making it difficult to understand. Instead of getting mad, he listened to our feedback carefully and made corrections in class. That evening, he went back and started to practice his handwriting, and by the next lecture, he wrote the whiteboard note that was suitable to Chinese students, making it easy to understand. What touched me most was last year, after exam A, when I went to ask him some questions. Facing my poor grades, he still encouraged me, saying, “You always ask good questions; you will have no problem in studying Mathematics!” His words helped me regain my passion and confidence in math.

Denis Osipov is the most adorable teacher I’ve met in GT. The first time I saw him, I thought he looked like Cupid from Greek mythology. He teaches several classes, and despite his busy schedule, he is always responsive to our office hour requests. Each office hour visit made me feel happy. Not only did he answer my questions, but he also shared some interesting math knowledge with me. He likes to eat snacks, and every time I visit him, I receive treats like chocolate and Swiss rolls.

As a Chinese saying goes, "Peaches and plums do not speak, but they are so attractive that a path is formed below the trees." When we, as freshmen, entered GTIIT campus, it was the gentle smiles and humorous words of the teachers that dispelled our negative feelings. They helped us gradually adapt to university life, integrate into English classes, and improve ourselves.

I especially want to thank our English teacher, Maria. She is more like a kind and gentle elder than just a teacher to us. Her words 'All work and no play make Jack a dull boy' brought us much laughter in class, while the advice 'An apple a day keeps the doctor away' made us feel warm and comforted. When we were distracted due to fatigue, she would remind us to stay focused in a pleasant way.

I joined Prof. Wang Yan’s research group during my freshman summer holiday. I truly admire her rigorous academic spirit. Prof. Wang is very kind to students, and during our discussions, she never feels that the time is too long. Even after returning from business trips, she remains passionate and never shows signs of fatigue, providing students with detailed guidance.

I remembered one time, when my individual meeting was scheduled for 10:30 pm, but once I started discussing with Prof. Wang, I lost track of time. We delved deep into our conversation, and it wasn’t until nearly 1 am that we finally wrapped up.

Moreover, Prof. Wang also cares about her students’ physical and mental health. To encourage us to exercise, she plays badminton with us and leads hikes up the mountain behind GT, caring for the well-being of each student. Today is Teachers’ Day, and I wish Prof. Wang a happy festival, good health, continued success, and the fulfillment of all her wishes.

SSSSuper loves Karen! One day, when I was in a bad mood during class, Karen noticed and took me out for a heart-to-heart talk. Who wouldn’t like a teacher who calls you “sweety” everyday? She told us how to learn and how to improve our learning efficiency in class. She is both a teacher and friend. It is very lucky to meet her during the preparatory semester.

Prof. Olivier HABIMANA, my academic advisor, greatly helped me in planning my courses and gave me valuable advice during my college time. I'm truly grateful to him and wish him happiness every day!

This piece of Song Ci was composed during my visit to Meng Mansion. I hope it can inspire students to set lofty goals and express sincere gratitude to teachers.

The general meaning is:

In ancient halls where echoes linger,

And steps rise high with voices clear,

One might ask if these times are gone,

With arches grand and carvings on,

The teacher’s gate still stands in view.

Who will tread this noble road again?

Scholars of old are long since gone,

Why lament that none now stay?

Today’s students must show their way,

With hearts that beat and drums that play.
