On August 5, Prof. Lin Danming, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Secretary of General Party Branch Committee of Guangdong Technion – Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT), delivered an introductory lecture for the 2024 cohort.

The Resolution of CPC Central Committee on Further Deepening Reform Comprehensively to Advance Chinese Modernization, which was adopted at the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), emphasizes the need to bolster the development of foundational, emerging, and interdisciplinary subjects, as well as to nurture top-tier talents. It also highlights the importance of enhancing innovation capabilities. The resolution advocates for the expansion of high-level educational exchanges and encourages prestigious foreign science and engineering universities to collaborate in establishing institutions in China. Prof. Lin Danming noted that studying at GTIIT, a Sino-foreign co-operative university focused on science and technology, the students are at a pivotal moment, bearing the nation's and people's fervent hopes. "I hope you can cultivate a passion for science, align your personal aspirations with the nation's progress, and attain new pinnacles in your lives through serving the country and the people."

During the lecture, students learned more about GTIIT's characteristics, talent cultivation, faculty, laboratory construction, etc. Prof. Lin Danming encouraged the students to face challenges head-on rather than escape through gaming, suggesting they take a refreshing jog around the track to invigorate both body and mind. He also motivated the students to make full use of the campus's extensive sports facilities to maintain robust health, which is essential for their academic and research pursuits. Additionally, he shared the impressive achievements of GTIIT alumni, inspiring the newcomers to emulate their accomplished predecessors and to achieve educational milestones that surpass their highest expectations.

The Paris Olympics are in full swing, with athletes on the field fiercely competing for honors, writing a series of inspiring stories. Zheng Qinwen, a Chinese female tennis player, made history by clinching the first-ever Olympic gold medal in women's singles tennis for China, a feat that deeply moved the students. "I hope everyone can learn from Zheng Qinwen's words, draw impetus from the athletes' spirit of perseverance, set goals in university, nurture patriotism, and push your limits," remarked Prof. Lin Danming.

The lecture, which was closely tied to trending events and delivered with depth yet simplicity, left the freshmen in great inspiration. The students were further resolved to delve deeply into their programs and study diligently.
