Open Day: Explore Science at GTIIT on This Spring Day

On Feb 3, Guangdong Technion - Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT) held the first campus open day in 2024. Lectures, mini classes, laboratory visit as well as mini math camp "Math Odyssy" were provided at the event, attracting nearly one thousand participants to unlock their first acquaintance with GTIIT. Nearly 200,000 people joined the event virtually through livestreaming.


GTIIT Leaders Talk: Innovation Has No Limit Here

Prof. David Gershoni, Vice Chancellor of GTIIT, gave an opening speech for the event. He introduced that as the China campus of Technion - Israel Institute of Technology, GTIIT has fully brought in the education resources of the Technion and followed the same academic standard. Up to now, there have been three cohorts of students graduating from GTIIT and 80% of them were admitted to the top universities for further study, which demonstrates that its talent cultivation has been widely recognized.

Prof. Lin Danming, Pro-Vice Chancellor of GTIIT gave a lecture titled "Study STEM in an Unlimited Way", highlighting the unique talent training mode of GTIIT. With particular emphasis on discipline foundation, problem-driven teaching, research, and innovation, GTIIT helps students discover the "seed of innovation" and keep pushing their limits.

GTIIT Students Sharing: How We Achieve Our Dreams Here

Li Huihong, a GTIIT senior student majoring in Biotechnology and Food Engineering shared his story on the path of being admitted to Yale University. He pointed out that GTIIT provided an excellent platform for undergraduates to conduct research, allowing him to explore his passion freely and published high-quality academic papers. His research ability and experience built up at GTIIT led him to further study in a prestigious university.

Chen Mingxi, a GTIIT freshman majoring in Mathematics with Computer Science (MCS), shared his study and life for the first semester. GTIIT attaches great importance to students' academic and research ability, focuses on science and engineering, and has unique educational resources, which attracted him to apply for this university as his first choice. In the first semester at GTIIT, he won a national competition and established a data-analytic club, taking the first step towards his dream here. He was grateful to the broad platform and multi-cultural environment provided by GTIIT.


The stories of Li Huihong and Chen Mingxi capture how GTIIT students chase their dreams in miniature. Many students and parents once again firmly decided to choose GTIIT as their target for undergraduate study.


Study at GTIIT: Mini Classes and High-End Labs

The origin of life on the earth, how the microorganisms affected ancient relics, ancient alchemy…GTIIT faculty team brought mini classes with above interesting topics, attracting a crowd of students and parents. They explored the fun of thinking and discovery the "problem-driven" mode of GTIIT amid a pleasant atmosphere. After the class, many still stayed to have deeper communication with GTIIT teachers and students.

"It's amazing," said some of the students and parents when they entered the world-class laboratories of GTIIT. GTIIT students are provided with high proportion of experimental teaching and are encouraged to take scientific research in their undergraduate study, with sufficient scientific research and experimental conditions here. The value of research equipment per undergraduate at GTIIT is equivalent to 50 times the standard issued by the Ministry of Education of P.R.C.

Math Odyssey: Get Closer to Math and GTIIT

"We make it!" With the ball passing through four rings and landing into the bowl, another team successfully passed the challenge of "Ring of Fire".

In the "Math Odyssey" section, nearly 100 high school students took the team competitions for fun with interesting math-based challenges designed by teachers from GTIIT MCS and physics programs. While enjoying the fun of the competition, the students fully experienced the beauty of mathematics and science, and the academic charm of this international science and engineering university.

After two hours of intense competition, Team 6 and Team 8 won the first place with the same score. After the game, students from both teams were excited to share their experiences. "Today's activity was really interesting! It was our first time to participate in this kind of mathematics camp that combines knowledge and games. The difficulty and fun of the games were well-set. We also experienced the charm of teamwork in solving scientific problems."

It's the first time for most contestants to visit GTIIT, and they were excited to share how they felt about the university. "What impressed me most is the faculty team here. The campus environment and the facilities are also very attractive to us. We hope to learn what we love here and strive to become scientists and engineers."
