Summertime for freshmen at Guangdong Technion – Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT) is buzzing with the joy of learning. Besides STEM, the university recently organized talks on mental health and sexual education for the cohort 2023. These sessions empower students to prioritize well-being alongside academics, creating a fulfilling university experience.
Stress Management: Unlocking Uni Life with Mental Wellbeing
On August 16, a mental health lecture titled “Stress Management” was delivered to the cohort 2023 by the GTIIT psychological counselor.
During the lecture, the speaker pointed out that embarking on the university journey is not just thrilling, but also laden with challenges. A negative mindset can trigger a vicious cycle of anxiety in commonplace stress scenarios. Therefore, understanding the psychology of stress is very important during the early transition into university life.
The lecture explored fresh GTers' common stress sources, typical cognitive traps, types of anxiety responses, and effective stress management strategies. The speaker aimed to inspire students to cultivate a growth mindset in handling stress and proactively adapt their connection with the outside world.
If you need mental assistance, feel free to schedule a counseling session by messaging counseling@gtiit.edu.cn. Our staff will contact you within two working days.
Sex Education: Promoting Sexual Health
On August 30, a lecture on “Sexual Safety and Health” was held at the library in GTIIT’s south campus. This session, led by physicians from Zhuozheng Medical Center, aimed to educate freshmen on the historical perspective of sexual concepts and the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).
The lecture covered the origins of STDs and provided students with knowledge on how to prevent them. Topics included developing good personal hygiene habits, avoiding high-risk sexual behaviors, and cautioning against blood-related medical procedures from unqualified institutions. Engaging case studies and informative data offered students valuable insights into STD infection trends among their peers, enhancing their awareness of sexual health and safety.
Furthermore, the lecture delved into the significance of combating discrimination. The speaker emphasized that HIV/AIDs is not spread through mosquito bites, saliva droplets, or physical contact. It is crucial to accord respect and understanding to individuals living with HIV/AIDS, rather than subjecting them to prejudice and exclusion. Such an approach will aid in fostering a more harmonious and compassionate social environment.
