Fully assembled! GTIIT Gaokao 2023 undergraduate admissions are now all accomplished

In 2023, GTIIT completed Gaokao admissions missions in 18 provinces, i.e., Beijing, Hebei, Heilongjiang, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Fujian, Jiangxi, Shandong, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Chongqing, Sichuan, Guizhou, with a total of 531 undergraduate first-year students admitted. The quantity and quality of these newly-recruited students improved significantly in most provinces, creating several items of “the MOST in admissions.”


This year, GTIIT admitted the most significant number of undergraduate students through Gaokao, with an intake plan of 440 but ended in 531 in total, showing a rate of 121% in the admissions plan completion. This total number of 531 admitted in a single year set a new record for student recruitment in GTIIT’s history.


Among all admitted students, 270 are from Guangdong Province and 261 are from other provinces, marking the most significant number of students admitted in a year since GTIIT was established. The quantity and quality of the students admitted overpassed the general situations in recent years and built a solid foundation for the university's sustainable development.


Admissions highlights in Guangdong


Big step upward in student quantity and quality

In 2023, GT accomplished a significant step upward in aspects of Guangdong students' quantity and quality. The original intake plan in Guangdong was 220. As the heat wave of GTIIT admissions promotions spread, students' willingness to apply for GTIIT continuously strengthened. After comprehensively considering GTIIT’s resources, especially faculty teams, and labs, the admissions committee enlarged the intake plan and finally admitted 270 students in Guangdong. This intake number is more than quadrupled compared with last year’s, and the lowest admissions ranking in Guangdong has been improved by 62,408, which made public media regard GT as the university with the most significant improvement in admissions ranking in 2023.


Regarding student origins, the proportion of students from Pearl River Delta (PRD) cities such as Guangzhou and Shenzhen continued to rise, with PRD students accounting for 77% of the total. The three cities with the most significant number of admissions were: Shenzhen, with 92 students (34.1% of Guangdong), Guangzhou with 64 students (23.7%), and Shantou with 58 students (21.5%).


Application fever is rising, being favored by Guangdong key high schools

The high school with the most significant number of students admitted to GTIIT in Guangdong this year is Chaoyang Experimental School, with 26 students admitted, followed by Shenzhen High School (10), Affiliated High School of Southern University of Science and Technology (10) and Shantou Jinshan High School (9).


High schools with a large number of students admitted include (in order of numbers): Chaoyang Experimental School, Shenzhen High School, Affiliated High School of Southern University of Science and Technology, Shantou Jinshan High School, RUC Affiliated High School in Shenzhen, Dongguan Donghua Higher School, Shenzhen Hongling High School, Shantou No. 1 High School, Shantou Yuhuai High School, Shenzhen Senior High School, Shenzhen Cuiyuan High School, Shenzhen Nanshan Foreign Language School, Guangdong Guangya High School, Guangzhou No. 7 High School, Guangzhou Zhixin High School, Nanhai Experimental High School of High School Affiliated to SCNU, Shenzhen Foreign Language School, and Guangzhou No. 2 High School, etc.


Admissions highlights in other provinces


Breaking through multiple points and blooming across nationwide

This year, GTIIT planned to recruit 220 students in the province outside Guangdong but finished with 261 admitted, with the intake plan completion rate of 118.6%. The average admissions scores surpassed the local first-tier cutoff line by 52.2 points, an increase of 32.3 points compared with last year’s.


The admissions scores and rankings in most provinces substantially improved compared to last year’s. Jiangsu, Anhui, Shandong, Henan, Sichuan, Hubei, Hebei, Chongqing, Zhejiang and Guangxi improved the lowest admissions rankings by more than 10,000, in which Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Hebei improved up to 40,000! The fastest growth in the number of admissions happened in Jiangsu, Shanghai, Hunan, Hubei, Hebei, Chongqing, Fujian and Heilongjiang. They all fully finished the recruitment plan tasks. They even digested added intake plan during the admissions window, which concluded the average number of students admitted in these provinces reached 1.8 times than last year’s!


Good start in three new provinces and having top student in Gaokao single subject

It is worth mentioning that this year, GTIIT opened three provinces for recruitment for the first time, i.e., Beijing, Guizhou, and Jiangxi. All these provinces had a good start, and the admission scores were far more than the first-tier cutoff line. For example, In Guizhou Province, the highest admissions score exceeded the line by 136 points, and the lowest score exceeded 76 points. At the same time, as an internationalized university with whole English teaching, GTIIT admitted students with an average score of 121 points in English this year, among which Ms. Huang from Guangxi got the highest score in English subject in her province, with an outstanding 149 points (out of 150 points) in English in Gaokao.


Elite high schools gathering-up in providing good students

Most of the students admitted in provinces outside Guangdong also come from local key high schools in various provinces, such as: Affiliated High School of Tsinghua University, Beijing No.101 High School, Jiangsu Suzhou High School, Affiliated High School of Nanjing Normal University, Wuxi No. 1 High School, Affiliated High School of Fudan University, Shanghai High School, Second Affiliated High School of East China Normal University, Hangzhou No. 14 High School, Ningbo High School, Shandong Experimental High School, Affiliated High School of Shandong Normal University, Qingdao No. 2 High School, Xiamen No. 1 High School, Xiamen Shuangshi High School, Hebei Zhengzhong Experimental High School, Hengshui Experimental High School, Hefei No. 1 High School, Guiyang No. 1 High School, Henan Experimental High School, Zhengzhou Foreign Language School, Wuhan No. 6 High School, Wuchang Experimental High School, Changsha Changjun High School, Changsha Yali High School, Changsha Mingde High School, Nanchang No. 2 High School, Nanchang No. 3 High School, Nanchang Foreign Language School, Chengdu Experimental Foreign Language School, Chengdu Shishi High School, Chongqing Bashu High School, Chongqing Experimental Foreign Language School, Harbin No. 3 High School, Affiliated High School of Harbin Normal University, Liuzhou Tiyi High School, Nanning No. 2 High School, etc.


Excellent in science fields and Outstanding in whole-person development

From the perspective of the sciences competition, a total of 10 admitted students have won first-class awards in provincial Olympiad competitions in five disciplines and national awards in sciences and creativity with third-class awards and above, including first-class provincial awards in the National Physics Competition for High School Students, first-class provincial awards in the National Olympiad in Informatics (NOIP), first-class national awards in the World Robotics Competition Finals, and first-class national awards in the National Information Technology Innovation and Practice Competition for High Schools and Elementary Schools, and so on.


Among the admitted students, many students have a wide range of extracurricular hobbies and recreational specialties, like musical instruments, the game of Go, Taekwondo, calligraphy, painting, dance and music, and other aspects. There are many holders of the Grade 10 certificate (the highest grade for the amateur) for Playing piano, violin, guzheng, bamboo flute, baowu, saxophone, and other musical instruments, and dancing in Chinese Dance. Some students even learned five foreign languages, robotics, APP development and computer programming, photography, etc.


By now, GTIIT had completed the Gaokao 2023 undergraduate admissions successfully.
