Focusing on basic scientific research, the Nan-Ao Science Conference will help build the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area into a global highland for basic research and original innovation. The Conference opened and started its first meeting in February in the beautiful Nan-Ao Island in Shantou. With its strengths in talent, GTIIT, as the Secretary Office unit and one of the organizers of the Nan-Ao Science Conference, will ensure the Conference's continued success while adhering to municipal strategy. 

The Shantou Science City Planning and Construction Expert Consultation was held on April 3 at the second meeting of the Nan-Ao Science Conference, which gathered academicians and experts to provide professional inputs. Presided by Mayor Zeng Fengbao, Chinese Academy of Science (CAS) academicians Rao Zihe, Chen Kaixian, Deng Xiaogang, Gong Xingao and Shen Yan participated the meeting and exchanged views. Yang Yongfeng from Academic Divisions of the CAS, Wang Zhenhai from Chinese Academy of Engineering, Wu Shiwen from Guangdong Science and Technology Department, and Liu Wenhua from Shantou University attended the meeting. Vice mayor Peng Congen gave an introduction of Shantou industry and the plan of the Science City.

Academicians and experts focused on Shantou's strategic layout "Three New, Two Features, and One Big" at the meeting on the planning and construction of Shantou Science City. They also gave professional advice on how to upgrade the city's sci-tech level to support Shantou's high-quality development in educational, technical and innovative aspects.

On behalf of the municipal government, Zeng extended a warm welcome to the academicians and experts, and expressed his gratitude to them for their full support of the Nan-Ao Science Conference and local science and innovation. He pointed out Shantou was granted as a city of innovators last year, and now its level of innovation and research has reached the front of Guangdong with its robust industry, diverse platforms and excellent universities. Thus, he hoped academicians and experts could pool wisdom and introduce more high-quality recourses to the construction of Shantou Science City. The Municipal Party Committee and the Municipal Government summarized the opinions and suggestions put forward by academicians and experts, and provide them with effective service.

The meeting introduced local industrial development and the construction ideas of Shantou Science City. During the Conference, academicians and experts also visited the marine biodiversity conservation and breed demonstration base.
