In celebration of International Women's Day 2023, the Royal Society of Chemistry published the themed collection "Celebrating International Women's Day: Women in Nanoscience", which highlights influential female scientists in nanoscience in recent years, among which Dr. Wang Yan from Guangdong Technion – Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT) is involved (6th from the left of row 8 in the figure below).
The theme collection involves a selection of works by female scientists around the world. They are corresponding authors of these articles which have been published in leading journals of nanoscience (e.g. Nanoscale Horizons, Nanoscale, and Nanoscale Advances). Dr. Wang Yan was invited by Nanoscale to write a review paper "Towards a new generation of permeable electronic skin" (Nanoscale, 2023, 15: 3051-3078), which was also included in the themed collection of "Nanoscale 2023 Emerging Investigators". It is worth mentioning that a number of undergraduate and postgraduate students from GTIIT have also participated in this research under Dr. Wang's guidance.
Article Abstract
To maintain the body temperature and hydration, human skin discharges sweat all the time, including sensible sweat and insensible perspiration, and one person normally discharge insensible sweat of 0.6-2.3 liters a day. Flexible wearable electronics are an emerging research area in recent years, they can be directly attached to the human skin to monitor a variety of physical, electrophysiological, biochemical signals in real time, such as body temperature, electrocardiogram, glucose levels, etc. To meet requirements of wear comfort, electronic skin devices need to have good breathability, so as to avoid skin issue (such as inflammation, allergy, etc.) caused by sweat accumulation and the inaccuracy of the acquired data.
