The opening ceremony and awarding ceremony of Campus Environmental Protection Cultural Festival supported by ZIM South China & Hong Kong and organized by Guangdong Technion - Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT) and GTIIT Education Foundation was held on December 5.
Established in 1945 in Haifa, Israel, ZIM Integrated Shipping Services is one of the leading carriers in the global container shipping industry with established operations in approximately 100 countries serving approximately 30,000 customers in over 350 ports worldwide. In recent years, ZIM is dedicated to becoming a leader in reduction of carbon emissions among global carriers, by making a concerted effort to reduce carbon footprint, water, energy and fuel consumption and conserve biodiversity. ZIM Fund is a dedicated project set by ZIM South China & Hong Kong, to support GTIIT staff and students to conduct a series of environmental protection activities and offer postgraduate students for studies at the Technion, further deepening Sino-Israeli communication. Varenyam Achal, Professor of GTIIT Environmental Science and Engineering Research Group; Deputy Dean of Undergraduate Studies Hosted the Ceremony Prof. Lin Danming, Pro-Vice Chancellor of GTIIT gave an opening speech. He expressed heartfelt thanks for ZIM's support to GTIIT and pointed out that GTIIT and ZIM have many similarities in terms of environmental protection, innovative spirit and social responsibility. GTIIT is willing to work with ZIM to strengthen university-enterprise cooperation, boost talent training, deepen Sino-Israeli communication, and promote sustainable development. Mr. Kevin Li, the President of South China & Hongkong of ZIM integrated shipping services attended the ceremony online and gave a speech. He extended warm congratulations on the opening ceremony of the environmental protection cultural festival at GTIIT. Mr. Li pointed out that through sponsoring the environmental protection cultural festival of GTIIT and establishing ZIM exchange scholarships, ZIM has made a big commitment to working alongside GTIIT, a prestigious university dedicated to innovative research, environmental conservation, and social prosperity, to raise awareness about environmental issues and cultivate talents of the green industry. 
Later, Yu Peirong, a GTIIT graduate student, shared her story as a student who experienced and witnessed China-Israel friendship. “Cultural and research experiences in two campuses of two countries make it possible for me to expand my knowledge as well as deepen my understanding of study, life, and future,” said Yu.
Mr. Yigal Cohen, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Director General of GTIIT, delivered the closing remarks. He expressed thanks to ZIM South China & Hongkong again for its generous support and great contributions to GTIIT, and stressed that GTIIT would continue to advance the cooperation with ZIM.

During the festival, GTIIT held the Speech Contest and Poster Competition, attracting students' active participation. Competitors from different majors and cohorts presented research-driven solutions to environmental issues with speeches and posters based on their personal experience and professional knowledge. They called on people to pay attention to ecological and environmental issues, and protect the environment with actions, showing GTIIT students’ original ideas on environmental protection issues.
