On November 30, Prof. Gong Xingao, Chancellor of Guangdong Technion - Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT) and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Prof. Lin Danming, Pro-Vice Chancellor of GTIIT, led a team to the Shantou Yuhuai High School, and gave a lecture to the students.
At the meeting, Prof. Lin Danming introduced the progress of GTIIT to Qiu Wenrong, Principal of Yuhuai High School and the teacher representatives. He also shared the performance of outstanding Yuhuai graduates at GTIIT. The two sides exchanged views on GTIIT's teaching, programs and graduates' destination, and the future-oriented emerging engineering elite education at GTIIT was highly recognized by the teachers.
Prof. Gong Xingao delivered a science lecture titled “From Atom to Computer, and Back”. The lecture was packed with enthusiastic students.
In the lecture, Prof. Gong Xingao explained the development of physics brought by the first computational solution to physics problems, and explained the relationship between physics and computing in a clear and simple way. He pointed out that computing and physics are mutually synergistic. Integration of machine learning and computational physical sciences presents new opportunities for transforming computational physical science.
During the Q&A session, students raised their hands and asked Prof. Gong about the reason he chose to engage in physics research, the development of computational physical science and the relationship between theory and technology, which reflected their vision on the national scientific development. Prof. Gong Xingao was impressed by the students' enthusiasm for science and their willingness to think. He encouraged them to study hard, lay a solid foundation of knowledge and strive to advance social development and scientific progress.
