On October 29, the 2022 Annual Conference of Shantou Regular High School was held by the Education Bureau of Shantou City in Guangdong Israel - Institute of Technology (GTIIT). The conference summarized the outcome and experience in enhancing high-level education, as well as discussed and disposed the priority and goal for the next stage. Attendees included the responsible persons of the Municipal Education Bureau, the Teacher Development Center, Shantou general high schools and GTIIT’s relevant leaders and staffs.

Prof. Lin Danming, Pro-Vice Chancellor of GTIIT, gave the opening speech and brief introduction of the university. He pointed out that over the past 5 years, GTIIT has taken advantages of its features to develop as a top university focusing on science and technology, with the graduates recognized by the world’s prestigious institutes and universities and a faculty team awarded with global prizes, successfully promoting a science environment as well as contributing to the development of an education highland in eastern Guangdong. He added that GTIIT hoped to take joint efforts with local basic education to advance university-school cooperation by sharing high-quality resources of teaching and research, to further enhance high-level education.

In the afternoon symbolism, Huang Huiyang, the board member of GTIIT and former Deputy Director of Shantou NPC Standing Committee, gave a keynote speech. He pointed out that the establishment of GTIIT has gained great support from the provincial and municipal government. The university, based on the ecological system of high-level disciplines and the advantages of basic research, has been cultivating pioneering scientists and researchers with innovation, global vision and humanities, as well as promoting industrial innovation and economic development in eastern Guangdong, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and even the whole country, with the focuses on the discipline construction of the world-level cutting-edge technologies, the economic development, the country's critical needs, and the people's health.

At the forum, participants discussed the future collaboration between two sides. Representatives from high schools mentioned that the enlightening Career Planning course provided by GTIIT has been widely acclaimed by parents and students. They hoped that the university can leverage its advantages of a high-level, international STEM university and more career and science activities targeting high school students could be provided.

GTIIT has offered “immersive” opportunities in science and technology to high school students such as mock experiments, masters’ classes, and open days, and will continue to deepen the collaboration with local high schools.
