My summer vacation is very fulfilling and exciting. After the exam, I entered a new stage of experimentation. Every day, I worked in Yigal Achmon's lab. Sometimes, I felt a little bit bored. So, I tried to record my daily work in the form of plog to make my life more interesting.

After finishing the experiment, I planned a trip by myself for the first time. During the trip, I took my sister with me, booked tickets, took the high-speed rail and the subway for the first time. While taking care of my younger sister and tackling various emergencies, I really felt my growth.

At the end of the journey, it's time to do something BFE student should do. I started to make the Chinese pastry “peach blossom cake” and moon cakes. Started from making the filling, I met a lot of challenges. The finished products made me felt that I am the best person in the world.

In addition to the dessert challenge, I also have new attempts in painting. New inspiration bursts out every day, so I tried a variety of painting styles, made two sets of WeChat emoticons, completed a comic story, tried new way of impasto, and drew a satisfactory picture for the Mid-Autumn Festival and Teachers' Day.

During this holiday, I participated in the 2022 "Cyberspace Security Summer Camp" hosted by InForSec and the Southeast University, and explored the charm of this field with students from 61 prestigious universities.

This summer camp is divided into two classes: network security and system security. The network security class that we belong to is mostly network security undergraduates and CTF (the technical competition between network security technicians in the field of network security) team players, while the system class is mainly composed of cybersecurity practitioners and graduate students. This summer camp has a strong team of lecturers, including the captain of the CTF team and the doctoral supervisor of the research institutes. After the camp, professors and the deans of relevant colleges were invited to give a report on cutting-edge research on cyber security, which allowed me to see the gap with my peers and also benefited me a lot.

This summer camp displayed to me some CTF joint teams and cybersecurity clubs in universities, including some famous teams and dark horses. The communication with them brought me the idea of forming a cybersecurity club at GTIIT.

After returning from the camp, we carried out a three-week CTF introductory training and successfully held the first intra-campus competition, attracting a group of freshmen interested in cyber security. From planning and publicity, preparing lessons, building a shooting range to awarding awards, it was inseparable from the strong support of the GTIIT leaders and the IT department as well as the selfless efforts of the team members.

At GTIIT, I majored in mathematics with computer science. The network security community can bring us more practical opportunities, and can better improve the employability and research abilities of students who are interested in related fields. Finally, all students who are interested in cyber security are welcome to join us!

When I came home for my summer vacation, I felt that the rhythm of the life had slowed down. I went for a walk by the lake with my dog, went home to eat the dishes made by my mother, picked up the brushes that had been idle for a long time, and invited my friends to learn to dance with the square dance aunties... The things that were commonplace when I was a child made me feel so much fun now.

After the college entrance examination, without waiting for the results, I went to visit Xinjiang with my family. In the cold wind in the morning, I saw Hemu Village under the morning sun; in the vast Kalajun Grassland, I saw the legendary “nine curves and eighteen bends”; by the Kanas Lake, I saw the distant snow mountain and river in front of me.

In Netherlands for further study

This summer, I successfully graduated from GTIIT. After completing the procedures step by step, I left the familiar land and started a journey to the Netherlands for further study.

Although I am alone in a foreign land, I have met many warm people. Here, everyone seems to express their love and appreciation for others more directly. In this lovely "flower country", we are all warming each other with words and actions.

This picture is a conversation I had with the girl sitting next to me when I started a new semester. "No one should be alone. And you are a super chill and nice person. I enjoyed your company today." These sentences warmed me, who felt lonely at the time, and I began to look forward to the challenges in the future.

Next to the tulip stand in the waterlooplein market, I mustered up my courage and praised a very elegant old lady. When we met again, we took a group photo together. The lady said my compliment made her day and her response to me seemed like magic and cheered me up.

I don't think it's difficult to express the likes and appreciations, maybe you're used to being reserved, but once you take the first step, you'll start enjoying the process.

In Swiss for further study

This summer vacation belongs to GTIIT, and it is as happy as the New Year Festival. Before the new semester, my roommate Li Yilin (2017BFE) hurried to Lausanne from Netherlands to visit my home with Yifan(2017CE). We tasted local delicious food together. They are still as brave as ever, and we have never changed.

I just said goodbye to my friends from the Netherlands and welcomed a guest from the UK. Zhinuo(2017CE) came to meet with Yongfeng(2017CE), who is an exchange student here. Just as I hurried on the tram to join them, I saw three familiar faces. They are GTers from cohort 2018. This summer vacation, the concentration of GTIIT is 100%!

There are many ways to be happy. And many styles of good vacations. The internship practice part will be published next time. Let us unlock more enriching summer life of GTers.
