To strengthen exchanges and cooperation with research institutes in Shantou, 12 professors of the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Materials and Technologies for Energy Conversion (MATEC), led by Prof. Daniel Tan, Director of MATEC, visited the Guangdong Provincial Laboratory of Chemistry and Fine Chemicals on April 22.
After visiting the labs, researchers from both sides held a discussion. Wang Ke, Head of the Research Management Department of the Provincial Laboratory, welcomed the team MATEC. Researchers Dong Zhengya and Zhou Bo, heads of relevant departments, introduced the Lab’s development, facilities and research teams. Dong Zhengya noted that he participated in the 2021 Training of Talent in Fine Chemicals and looked forward to collaborating with GTIIT.
Prof. Daniel Tan introduced the basic information about the construction plan, research directions and team members of MATEC laboratory at GTIIT. He mentioned that as the world’s energy crisis and pollution are in the foreground, MATEC, GTIIT's first provincial-level research platform being recognized by the Guangdong government, was born out of the time. MATEC has set four research directions: electromechanical conversion, energy storage and solar cells, catalytic conversion, materials processing and characterization. It aims to implement an interdisciplinary team of high-level talents, build a first-class key laboratory, provide a platform for sharing advanced resources, and provide intellectual support for materials and technologies for energy conversion in Guangdong Province.
GTIIT’s south campus is adjacent to the new site of the Guangdong Provincial Laboratory of Chemistry and Fine Chemicals, which has excellent geographical advantages. Prof. Tan expressed his hope that through this exchange, the two sides would explore more possibilities for cooperation and create synergies to jointly promote the development of the two laboratories as well as local industry-university-research collaboration.
Both sides also had in-depth exchanges on their respective research areas, laboratory management, talent introduction, postgraduate student recruitment, technology transformation and investment incubation.
The Guangdong Provincial Laboratory of Chemistry and Fine Chemicals is one of the second batches of laboratories in Guangdong Province initiated by the Guangdong Provincial Government. It has established cooperation with several leading research teams in the field of chemistry and chemicals to build an open research platform. The laboratory will move from the Longhu Sci & Tech Building to its new site in June. By December 2021, the laboratory has undertaken seven major national and provincial projects.
