The China Innovation and Entrepreneurship Fair (CIEF) 2021 was held from December 10 to 12 in Guangzhou. Under the theme of “Enabling Double Circulation and Boosting New Development”, the CIEF featured the Belt and Road International Exhibition Area and the “Israel Day” activities. Guangdong Technion - Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT) made its debut at the CIEF. 9 projects from GTIIT teachers and students focused on low-carbon, scientific and technological intelligence, etc. had great performance in the road show, forum and project pavilion.

Mr. Peleg Lewi, Consul General of Israel in Guangzhou, made a keynote speech on the “Innovation·Capital·Transformation of Sci-Tech Achievement” China Israel Innovation Cooperation Ecosystem Development Forum. He said that innovation was crucial for the future and the CIEF was an important platform for Israeli enterprises to cooperate with China. “It is hoped that this fair will facilitate the docking of more technology projects and enterprises between China and Israel, and further promote the development of scientific and technological innovation and international cooperation.”

Professionals from healthcare, technology and other industries discussed technology and innovation, capital and innovation and other related topics at the forum. “We focus on cultivating students' commercial thinking, providing them with cutting-edge innovation and entrepreneurship knowledge as well as rich practice opportunities, and paying attention to the transformation of achievements and property rights protection.” Mr. Raanan Adin, Senior Consultant to Vice Chancellor of GTIIT introduced the scientific research strength and discipline construction of GTIIT, and shared the experience of technological innovation and entrepreneurship.

GTIIT signed the memorandum of understanding with Guangzhou International Bio Island Co Ltd. at the fair. According to the memorandum, a workstation of enterprise-university-research institute cooperation between GTIIT and Guangzhou International Bio Island will be established to facilitate technology transfer between the two countries.

Prof. Yigal Achmon, Assistant Professor of GTIIT Biotechnology and Food Engineering Program introduced his project "Biosolarization compost - ecofriendly soil disinfection technology" on the Israel Innovation Project Roadshow. He said that as a green and organic way to disinfect soil, bio-insolation would play an important role in improving agricultural production efficiency, promoting environmental protection and the development of organic agriculture.

9 projects from GTIIT teachers and students attracted great attention in the Belt and Road Countries and International Exhibition Area. People spoke highly of the projects, many of whom also expressed their intention for further cooperation. GTIIT students introduced the projects to the exhibitors at the booth and shared their experience of participating in the research projects.

Su Pengyu, a student from GTIIT Mathematics with Computer Science Program of the Class of 2024, said he benefited a lot from his first time introducing his projects to the public in such an international platform. "I participate in Prof. Huang Kai's project on diamond semiconductors, which is very helpful for my interdisciplinary study. I see many other scientific research projects at the exhibition and broaden my horizons."

Yu Yongxin, a student from GTIIT Materials Science and Engineering Program of the Class of 2024 said, “I learn more about the material related field in this project and learn how to make a business plan. I feel a sense of accomplishment for introducing my project to others in the fair personally!”
