The 2020-2021 Computational Physics Seminar, organized by the Institute of Physics (IoP), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and co-organized by Guangdong Israel – Institute of Technology (GTIIT) and Shantou University (STU), was held in Shantou today.
The Seminar is CAS's annual academic event in the field of computational physics, with the purpose to strengthen scholarly exchanges and cooperation.
It brought together specialists and scholars from well-known research institutes (IoP, CAS; Beijing Computational Science Research Center, etc) and universities (Tsinghua University, Peking University, Renmin University of China, Fudan University, Nanjing University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Southern University of Science and Technology, etc) to give presentations and discuss frontier areas in computational physics, further deepening academic communications among scholars from different research directions.
CAS Academician Gong Xingao, Chancellor of GTIIT, extended a warm welcome to all participants in his speech at the Auditorium of GTIIT.
Pro-Vice Chancellor Lin Danming provided a general picture of GTIIT's characteristics, teaching staff and the overall situation of teaching and research.
Professors from GTIIT's Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology and Food Engineering, Mathematics with Computer Science introduced these undergraduate programs. Young scholars Xu Xinpeng, Huang Kai and Wang Nan also shared their latest achievements.
In the seminar, Prof. Wu Quansheng from IoP, CAS gave a presentation entitled "Electronic Structure and Band Topology of Twisted Graphene Systems" and Prof. Liu Qihang delivered a speech on "Spin Group Symmetry in Magnetic Materials and Its Application on New Topological Phases".
In the afternoon, participants also visited GTIIT's North and South Campus. They learnt about its latest advancements and affirmed its creating a favorable environment for students to conduct scientific research.
The Seminar effectively stimulated the scholarly exchanges and communication in physics and provided a platform for GTIIT's young scholars and students to learn about the latest academic development.
