Yesterday, Prof. Cao Jianlin, Deputy Director of the Committee of Science and Education of the CPPCC National Committee, Former Vice Minister of Science and Technology gave a lecture to GTIIT's freshmen as the special guest of the opening ceremony.

Prof. Cao Jianlin expressed his congratulations to all the freshmen online via video. He hoped to share his experience with the students as they entering the university.

Prof. Cao Jianlin is one of the witnesses to the development of GTIIT. On Dec. 16, 2015, Prof. Cao Jianlin visited Shantou to attend the construction launching ceremony of GTIIT. He still remember the scene clearly. "After just a few years of development, GTIIT has made some great achievements. I believe GTIIT will have a promising future!"

Prof. Cao Jianlin said that national policies and the teaching and research resources at GTIIT have provided students with good learning conditions and broad development opportunities. "I hope the students will seize the opportunity, meet the challenges, work hard and connect what they have learned with the needs of the society, and actively devote themselves to the construction of our country.” He expressed high expectations to GTIIT's freshmen.

As the Director of Ji Hua Laboratory, the Advanced Manufacturing Science and Technology GuangDong Laboratory, Prof. Cao Jianlin introduced the background, development, disciplines and research directions, characteristics, key tasks, construction achievements and other aspects of the laboratory to GTIIT's teachers and students. "We warmly welcome GTIIT students to intern in Jihua Laboratory. We also look forward to a closer relationship with GTIIT and making contributions to the development of science and technology together!"

GTIIT students are good at thinking and asking questions. Even the freshmen also showed their potentials in asking questions on the first day at GTIIT. During the Q&A session, students actively asked questions about "how to find the research direction they are interested in", "how to strike a balance between theory and practice", "the way of cooperation between laboratory and industry", etc. Prof. Cao Jianlin advised students to study hard in the university to lay a solid professional foundation. He also encouraged students to try more and practice more, gradually find their interest in the process and work hard for it.

Chen Changyang, a freshman from Biotechnology and Food Engineering Program, said he was deeply touched by the first lecture at GTIIT. "I hope I can make full use of the four years in the university, broaden my horizon and find my goals for the next stage as soon as possible."

This lecture was the first academic lecture for the freshmen. In the future, a variety of lectures and sharing activities will be carried out continuously to provide students with more opportunities to communicate with the professionals from all walks of life.
