In order to motivate GTIIT students to start planning and preparing their future career after graduating, several seminars on career in academy and industry were held at GTIIT recently. Teachers provided guidance for students from different programs, and answered students' questions about applying for graduate universities, employment, etc.
How to determine the future research direction? How to make good use of the summer vacation time? What’s the difference between direct Ph.D and start with master's degree? In order to provide guidance and suggestions for students, recently, GTIIT materials science and engineering program held a Seminar about Your Future Career in Academy and Industry. Prof. Klaus-Dieter Liss, Deputy Dean of the Graduate Studies; Prof. Daniel Tan, Deputy Head of Materials Science and Engineering Program; Assistant Professor Aleksandra Baron-Wiechec and Assistant Professor Xie Zuoti participated in the seminar, combining their own experiences to provide students with information about the future Development.
"As a GTIIT student, you have many choices about future. You can find a great job after graduate, choose to start a business, or stay in GTIIT as a research assistant in gap year, or apply a famous university in the world for further study. You must make good use of the advantages of GTIIT to choose the path that suits you." Professor Daniel Tan said at the beginning, and hopes that students can have more communicate with professors to make a clear plan for their future.
Prof. Klaus-Dieter Liss and Assistant Professor Aleksandra Baron-Wiechec also emphasized the importance of communication. Professor Klaus-Dieter Liss hopes that students can make good use of GTIIT office hour. Professors are willing to teach everything they know, but at the same time they look forward to the feedback. Assistant Professor Aleksandra Baron-Wiechec believes that students should start from now, think more about future plans and the skills needed for the plan so that students can improve their personal abilities in a targeted manner.
Assistant Professor Xie Zuoti emphasized the importance of complementary advantages. He said that GPA is not the only criterion for considering a person's ability, research and experimental experience are also very important. With a wealth of scientific research experience, the instructor will be able to dig out your personal highlights when writing a recommendation letter.
In the questioning session, students actively interacted with the professors. He Hanglin, graduate from material science and engineering program also shared his experience with junior classmates. He said that the experience of teaching assistants and research assistants will be of great help to future applications for overseas universities. He also encouraged junior classmates to practice more and make good use of GTIIT’s scientific research resources to discover their own research potential.
