GTIIT held a poster session for Cohort 2017 from Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) Program. It was the finalization for the course Advanced Project in MSE, which would be fulfilled with the submission of a project report and a poster from their individual research works under the guidance of respective professors in the faculty. They also participated in the on-site question and answer sessions.
Dr. habil. Amitesh Paul from MSE, who was the coordinator for the course and organizer for the poster session event, shared the idea that this unique course presentation is not only a valuable opportunity for students to show their research projects, but also a free platform for students to learn from each other and share their ideas.
He also informed that there were 54 students who participated in 9 projects. The projects were proposed by 6 faculty members within the MSE program and were all completed within the stipulated time.
Several students introduced their project to the faculty. For example, Huang Shixian said "We used a phase field model on computer to simulate the growth of crystals in a two-dimensional alloy. After adjusting various parameters, we got snowflake shaped dendrites and other complex shapes."
Wu Xin said "Don't be afraid of trouble and difficulties, and never be lazy when doing research. You have to rely on yourself to find the answers to many things." Junyu Huang, said “We have used the Grazing incidence small angle scattering data from an advanced synchrotron facility in Germany, for our understanding in nanoscale engineering."
Prof. Daniel Tan, Deputy Head of Materials Science and Engineering Program, Prof. Klaus-Dieter Liss and all other faculty members spoke highly of the students' performance. "This is the first time for the MSE students to hold a poster session like this, and the students showed their great talents, even up to postgraduate student’s level. They will take part in these kinds of activities as they go on to their graduate studies. The practice at GTIIT will help them a lot to do better in the future."
