On May 19th-22nd, the first seminar on the frontiers of non-equilibrium physical processes in micro-nano devices and the annual exchange conference of major projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China was held at Guangdong Technion-Israel Institute of Technology. Famous experts and scholars from all over the country gathered together to promote high-level academic communication of science and technology. This conference was hosted by Fudan University and Beijing Computational Science Research Cente.

Prof. Xie Xincheng, Deputy Director of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor of Peking University; Dr. Dong Guoxuan, Executive Deputy Director of the Department of Mathematics and Physics, National Natural Science Foundation of China; Dr. Ni Peigen, Division Chief of Physics, Department of Mathematics and Physics, National Natural Science Foundation of China; Prof. Lin Haiqing, director of the Beijing Computational Science Research Center and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Prof. Gong Xingao, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chancellor of Guangdong Technion-Israel Institute of Technology and Professor of Fudan University, project team members, and experts from many well-known universities and research centers were invited to participate in this conference. Two young foreign scholars from GTIIT were invited to took part in this event.

Prof. Xie Xincheng, on behalf of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, introduced the project progress of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. When he knew that more than 90% of GTIIT faculty are foreigners, he pointed that all projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China are open to foreign scholars, he warmly welcomes the faculty from GTIIT to apply these projects. In the future, a special plan for foreign scholars will be launched to help foreign scholars in their scientific research in China.

"GTIIT is a young university with great potential. Although the campus is not large, it has narrowed the distance between professors and students." At the opening ceremony, Prof. Gong Xingao briefly introduced GTIIT about its features, faculty, and scientific research. He said that GTIIT attaches great importance to this conference and hopes to have deeper communication with experts and colleagues though this chance and to push the work to the next level.

During the invitation report session, Prof. Jin Zhao from the University of Science and Technology of China, Distinguished Researcher Zhang Xie from the Beijing Computational Science Research Center, Prof. Wu Shiwei from Fudan University, Prof. Zhu Haiming from Zhejiang University, Prof. Xu Yang from the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Associate Prof. Mi Qixi from the Shanghai University of Science and Technology, Associate Prof. Marcelo Ciappina and Assistant Prof. Khadga Karki of Guangdong Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, gave lectures about their research fields, sharing the latest research results and difficulties with the scholars in order to exploring solutions.

Prof. Gong Xingao also invited the leaders of the National Natural Science Foundation of China to visit scientific research laboratories such as the Electron Microscopy Center of GTIIT to show the progress of GTIIT’s scientific research and had further communication with laboratory members.

In the four-day conference, well-known domestic experts and young scholars gathered together at GTIIT to discuss leading edge issues of physics, learn from each other and improve their research results. This conference not only provide a platform for Chinese scholars to communicate with each other and make progress, but also build an important channel for GTIIT's researchers.
