On March 14-15, in order to help students to develop their career plans and explore new ways for university-enterprise cooperation, 20 students from Guangdong Technion-Israel Institute of Technology who are studying the "Design Your Career" course, visited the Tetro LTD Factory in Dongguan.
The visit was lead by Prof. Tamara Tilleman, Dean of Innovation and accompanied by Mr Eran Gal-Or, Director General of GTIIT; Prof. Daniel Tan, Deputy Head of Materials Science and Engineering and Esmaeil Narimissa, Assistant Prof. at the Chemical Engineering Department.
Recently, members from Tetro LTD came to GTIIT for the first
student employment and entrepreneurship event and invited students to join them.
For this visit, Mr Ilan Ben Meir, CEO of Tetro LTD (and a Technion graduate)
warmly welcomed teachers and students from GTIIT. In the R&D laboratory,
Ilan showed UV and environmental testing machines and various materials
developed by the company. In addition to the laboratory, Ilan also took
students to visit the IQC area, the injection factory, the hardware factory and
the R&D department where students are most likely to work in the future.
Ilan showed students the company's advanced production
management system and shared with the students what in his view are the three
most important qualities of being an engineer: being Clear, Reasonable and
Measurable (CRM).
As part of the course program, all students were asked to
prepare questions in advance and over an hour session Ilan replied to them
patiently, encouraging students not just to be professional in one field but
also to have a clear understanding of each part of the production process and
to control the situation.
As for the future, Ilan said that the most important thing is to have patience and keep trying. Secondly, people must be happy. Always ask yourself what field makes you really happy and choose a company that allows you to have a clear career path.
Tetro LTD has its own R&D centers in China, Israel, and Germany. In this journey students visited two major factories in Shipai Town, Dongguan. Tetro LTD has over a thousand employees, 10% of them are engineers with international backgrounds.
Professor Daniel Tan said that this journey let students see different steps of factory's production, met engineering experts in different fields, and felt international atmosphere in this company. This is very helpful to students' future career developemnt.
"GTIIT has set up a career development center, and opened the course called "Design Your Career" to help students identify career paths that match their interests and strengths ." Professor Tilleman said, in the future, the university will bring students to more international companies to explore more exciting careers and opportunities.
