Spring Festival Gala Watching, and Graffiti Wall Painting to make them
feel at home.
Follow us to know more.
Dumplings Making
GTIIT teachers and students gathered together in the canteen to make dumplings, celebrating the coming Chinese New Year on Feb. 10, the 29th day of the 12th month in Lunar Calendar. As it was the first time for many international faculties to participate in this activity, Chinese participants volunteered to teach them. Everything was going smoothly with the collective effort and the canteen was imbued with the atmosphere of happiness.
"My favorite Chinese food is dumplings," said Prof. Paulo Tirao from Argentina. He made dumplings by himself with the guidance of GTIITers. After an afternoon's practice, he managed to make dumplings with good shape. "I wish I can join the dumpling making activity next year, too," he said at the end of the event.
We also set up a Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition at the same time with the tea master showing the Chaoshan Gongfu tea art performance. Tea and refreshment were provided for participants to better experience the traditional Chinese culture.
Mountain Climbing
The Mountain Climbing activity was organized on Feb 12,
the first day of the Chinese New Year. Students and teachers climbed
the Sangpu Mountain together, with the hope of moving up to higher
positions in studies or in career. Chinese students introduced the
history of the mountain to international teachers to help them know more
about the Chaoshan culture. They reached the peak at around noon. "I am
glad to meet many teachers and students, enjoy the wonderful scenery of
this city and get outside for fresh air during this process," said Guo Yuqi, a student from Shanghai.
Bread Baking
The Bread Baking activity was held on Feb 12, teaching participants how to make the Challah bread. "It's a traditional Hebrew food, which is often made on Friday afternoon and eaten for Shabbat," said Israeli teacher Sigal Levy. She taught everyone a traditional Shabbat song when waiting for the dough to get fluffy. "It is a song with no lyrics but only the sound of 'nai nai". By doing this, every Hebrew can recognize each other, no matter where they come from and which language they speak. When singing this song together, they will know that they are a family," said Sigal. "I feel warm when we sing this song together on this special occasion," said Ma Lingling, a student from Chemical Engineering program.
Film Screening
"I really enjoy lying on a chair watching movies during vocation," said Chen Shiqi, a Year 3 student from Biotechnology and Food Engineering. She has become a fan of Film Screening activity. 16 awesome movies were displayed at the Visitors and Innovation Center, from morning to night during the Spring Festival. There are many kinds of movies, such as children's movie Up and romantic movie Flipped. Believe it or not, there will always be a movie that will evoke your memories.
Board Game
GTIIT Chess Club prepared around 10 excited games with different difficulty level for participants. "I am glad that many people join in this activity and make new friends," said Yang Zhenyu, a student from Mathematics with Computer Science, one of the leaders of this activity. He added that it was also a good opportunity to develop mutual understanding of both Chinese and international chess culture.
Wish all GTIITers a joyful and fulfilling new year!
