Congratulations!

More than 600 contestants from nearly 65 colleges and universities in Guangdong Province participated in this competition. The FLTRP Cup National English Speaking, Writing and Reading Contest is the largest English speech competition with the highest level in China. It provides a platform for university students to show their English, communication and thinking ability, and help them grow into high-quality English talents with global vision and innovative ability.

When it comes to the experience of learning English, Liu Minwei believes that language learning is a process where practice makes perfect. "Students in GTIIT are in an English-teaching environment. I think we have certain advantages in English compared with students from other traditional domestic universities in such an environment."

In terms of writing, Liu Minwei mentioned three key points-accumulation, training, and forming one’s own views. "For me, writing lab reports and emails in English at GTIIT is actually a kind of basic writing training. When writing argumentative essays, you need to have your own multi-angled opinions on different topics. In addition, using more connectives to maintain good coherence in the article, trying to replace some words as synonymously, and using some advanced sentence patterns will also help you do better in English writing." Minwei said.

Liu Minwei said that in addition to winning awards and qualifying for the finals in this competition, it was more important to improve his writing and thinking skills. "We were required to write an argumentative essay and an explanatory essay in the writing contest. I think the topic of the argumentative essay is very useful to train my divergent thinking ability. I need to consider about the arrangement of the article, the method of discussion and the usage of vocabulary, which are very important in the process of writing. I feel that I have done a good job in these aspects this time."

As for the preparation for this competition, Liu Minwei said that it was more about the accumulation in the daily learning. "Before the competition, I reviewed all the key points that should be paid attention to in argumentative writing, including the selection of opinions, discussion methods, structure, sentence patterns and vocabulary, etc. I think my TOEFL writing training helps me a lot in getting such a good result."

"I’m pretty confident in the national finals in December, and hope I can win honors for myself and for GTIIT."

Wish Liu Minwei a great success in the finals!
