How to find your dream university? You'd better try to know about it before you make decisions.
GTIIT Admissions Office brought the second live broadcast on the evening of March 20. Mr. Lin Le from the Office, introduced the university and its admissions policies.
Please follow me to know more about GTIIT.
About GTIIT
Guangdong Technion-Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT) is a Sino-foreign cooperative university with independent legal status. It introduces high-quality Israeli higher education resources to China. From a perspective of Technion, GTIIT is a campus of Technion. Technion jointly runs GTIIT and is responsible for university affairs like recruiting faculty, teaching, and scientific research at GTIIT. Technion has moved the three undergraduate programs taught in English from Haifa to GTIIT.
Features of Israeli Education
40% of Israel's economy is driven by high technology, and high-tech R & D investment accounts for 4.5% of Israel's GDP. Israel has also ranked first in the world in terms of these numbers (per capita) of academic papers, scientists and technicians, registered patents and startup companies. Numerous scientific research achievements made by Technion's alumni are also widely available in daily life, such as USB flash drives, the first generation of instant messaging tool ICQ. Technion has three Nobel Laureates in faculty. And this number ranked eighth in the world's universities. Nobel laureate Prof. Aaron Ciechanover was the first vice president of GTIIT, and is responsible for the university's academic development. Technion has been a world leader in the fields of computer science, electronics, medicine, life sciences, environment, materials, and aerospace. According to the ARWU by Shanghai Jiaotong University, Technion ranks 85th in the world, the computer science ranks 18th and the engineering subject 44th. Among those high-tech Unicorn companies in US, the number of CEO who are alumni from Technion ranks seventh. Backed by Israel's high-tech industry and the strong background of Technion, the strength of GTIIT cannot be underestimated.
Programs and Faculty
GTIIT has opened three programs since 2017, i.e. Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology and Food Engineering, and Materials Engineering. A new program, Mathematics and Computer Science, will open in 2020.
【Mathematics and Computer Science】
Supported by the department of Mathematics and the department of Computer Science of Technion, this program includes deep and rigorous courses in mathematics and computer science. In the economy driven by data, mathematic talents are extremely welcomed by high-tech enterprises. The broad courses provides students with a solid mathematical foundation and a strict training in thinking, which will become a strong support for future employment. Technion's experience revealed that students from mathematics and computer science can successfully engage in related work in fields of finance, IT, biotechnology, artificial intelligence, signal processing, and medical equipment, or continue their studies in mathematics or computer science.
【Chemical Engineering】
Chemical engineers deal with a variety of areas: energy (power plants, renewable, solar), water treatment (desalination, wastewater treatment), polymers, microelectronics, nanotechnology, pharmaceutical and biotechnology, petrochemicals, security, environmental quality and more. The chemical engineer is involved in related processes from initial design to the finished product. Change is at the heart of chemical engineering. The industry changes the structure of materials to arrive at useful or valuable products.
【Biotechnology and Food Engineering】
The Program of Biotechnology and Food Engineering (BFE) is one of few in the world that combines a unique merging between engineering-technology research and fields in life sciences. The BFE degree trains engineers in two areas: biotechnology and food. The program provides a unique combination between engineering and technological fields and areas of natural and life sciences, in particular, biotechnology. Working with biological materials is common to both fields, and provides a basis for core courses in engineering and technology.
【Materials Engineering】
Material Science and Engineering is an advanced area, which is entering many varied industries at a fast pace. The great importance of materials engineering lies in the development of new processes and materials required for advanced industries. The materials engineer chooses materials suitable for various engineering applications; is involved in R&D of materials from the nuclear through the molecular levels; researches, develops and implements processes, as well as product quality and reliability assurance; improves material properties; investigates product failure; applies advanced analytic methods; and manages technology. Specialization areas include: metallurgy and metallic materials; electronic materials; ceramic materials; polymers and plastic materials; complex materials; environmental protection of materials; methods of characterizing material.
Tips of Choosing Program
Are students graduating from these programs hard to be employed? Should I select the popular one? The programs that GTIIT open require applicants who have a solid mathematics, physics and chemistry foundation and will provide students long-term academic training. This characteristic demands highly on the university's economic and faculty strength, and requires a large amount of human, financial and material resources to build laboratories and research teams. The tuition fees at GTIIT are relatively high, because of its first-class laboratories and faculty teams around world, where students can obtain recourse several times or even dozens of times the eligibility standards prescribed by the Ministry of Education. The situation of related programs in China is inseparable from the mismatching of teaching quality in universities and market in China.
In general, the specialty of environment, energy and human health is of crucial significance for improving the quality of human life and solving future challenges. At present, the pursuit of a better life has become the next goal of people in China, and these related programs have broad prospects. When choosing a program or career, we recommended that students should take a long-term view, making multiple comparisons and comprehensive assessments, and avoid simply pursuing those so-called popular programs.
Teaching Features and Strength
GTIIT uses English as teaching language. With intensive schoolwork arrangements to consolidate students' mathematical and physical foundations, we focus on training students who can find solutions to future problems. In GTIIT, students not only have to undertake learning tasks, but also are required to ask questions. This spirit of innovation is in line with the innovation advocated by Technion. All students can go to Technion for a semester or a summer study and experience Israeli education closely. Besides, students can also apply for the exchange program from elite universities that in the network of Technion.
GTIIT is the youngest university to enter Guangdong's "high-level university construction plans", which means that it can get more policy and financial support from the Guangdong Province. There is no limit to the future of GTIIT.
